Bishop Kettler congratulates catechumens Thi Meyer and her daughter, Brianna, 7, of St. Paul Parish in St. Cloud after they sign their names in the Book of the Elect.

The Rite of Election of Catechumens and Call to Continuing Conversion of Candidates with Bishop Donald Kettler was held at St. Mary’s Cathedral in St. Cloud Feb. 22. Each year at the beginning of Lent, the bishop gathers with catechumens who are preparing to receive the sacraments of initiation — baptism, confirmation and Eucharist — at the Easter Vigil. During the liturgy, he also recognizes candidates, those who have been baptized and now seek full communion with the Catholic Church through the sacraments of confirmation and/or Eucharist.
