What it Is

The Traveling Chalice program is a tool to encourage families and individuals to come together to pray for vocations and to encourage young people to think about the priesthood and religious life. This program provides a physical object on which to focus during prayer.

How it Works

Two chalices were donated to the Vocations Office. Each chalice is packaged with a prayer for vocations in both English and Spanish and directions for what to do once you receive the chalice. Each family or individual who receive the chalice will keep it in their home for one week. At the end of the week, (typically this could occur at the weekend liturgy), it is then packaged up and passed along to another family or individual within the diocese. That person or family then contacts the Vocations Office to track where the chalice is traveling.

Needs it Fulfills

All are called to a vocation whether it is to the single life, married life, brother, sister, deacon or priest. This program aims to help diocesan families become more aware of the need for vocations and the possibility that God may be calling a member of their family to serve the church in a particular way.

If you are interested in starting a Traveling Chalice program in your parish, talk with your priest and contact the Vocations Office at (320)251-5001 for further resources.

The Traveling Chalice ministry launched the weekend of July 11, 2010.

Chalice #1 began its travels in Little Falls and moved to Pierz. From Pierz, the chalice made it's way to Lastrup. From Lastrup, the chalice was passed on to Hillman and from Hillman it moved to Buckman. From Buckman, it went back to Pierz and it is now in Little Falls again!

Chalice #2 began its travels in Elk River and has just entered the community of Zimmerman. Stay tuned to see where the chalice will travel to next!

Quote from one of the families that had the chalice:

"The chalice looks so beautiful on our dining room table and having it in our home has made us more focused on praying a family rosary each evening and on praying for our seminarians.  It is a privilege to have it in our home."
