Image By Barbara Simon-Johnson/Communications Office - Diocese of Saint CloudIn his new encyclical “Laudato Si’” (“Praise be to you”), Pope Francis appeals for a dialogue “about how we are shaping the future of our planet” at a time when the world is facing a number of environmental challenges with human roots.

Among the challenges he identifies is climate change and the negative impact it is having on humanity, especially the world’s poor and vulnerable populations.

“A very solid scientific consensus indicates that we are presently witnessing a disturbing warming of the climatic system,” he said in the letter, which was sent to bishops in advance of its public release June 18.
