Today we celebrate the solemnity of Pentecost, aka the birthday of the Catholic Church!

On Pentecost, the apostles and Mary, the Mother of God, were gathered in the upper room when the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles as tongues of fire, giving them the strength and courage to go out and spread the Gospel to all the nations. From this moment the Church was born.

Today, let us ask the Holy Spirit to descend upon our own souls, giving us the strength and courage to preach the Gospel in our lives as well.

“Come Holy Spirit, sweet Guest of my soul!”
