The diocesan archives includes a series of letters written by Bishop Rupert Seidenbusch between 1875 and 1888. In 1866, he was elected the first abbot of St. John’s Abbey in Collegeville and
In 1875 he was appointed Vicar Apostolic of Northern Minnesota (today Diocese of Saint Cloud). In October 1888, he resigned due to serious illness. He died on June 3, 1895 and was buried in the St. John’s Abbey cemetery in Collegeville. #archives #history #catholichistory

"I’m so pleased that we can do this as a real memorial,” Bishop Donald Kettler said during the unveiling of a historical marker honoring the former St. Cloud Children’s Home Jan. 20. “People will see this and remember,” he said.

The marker is located on the Beaver Island Trail along the Mississippi River in St. Cloud with the bell tower of the Children's Home building visible in the distance behind it. During the event, the marker was dedicated by St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis and blessed by Bishop Kettler.

The St. Cloud Children’s Home was founded in 1924 for the care of orphans and the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls were involved there for over 40 years. In the mid-1960s, operations transitioned to Catholic Charities of the Diocese of St. Cloud, MN as a residential treatment center for youth. The diocese sold the Children’s Home property in the fall of 2020. #beaverislandtrail #history #stcloudmn #catholicsofinstagram #visitstcloud
