February & March 2022 - Formation of “Listeners”
Since the level of understanding and experience regarding synodality differed across the diocese, formation workshops were provided to give people an orientation about synodality and equip them with basic skills for synodal processes. Such skills included carrying out synodal consultation meetings and this basic formation is in itself a valuable outcome of the current Synodal Process.
Synodality often entails learning new ways of engaging with one another, including how we listen to each other and conduct group meetings. Sometimes our existing practices may not fully resonate with the principles of synodality, and would thus be counter-productive to an authentically synodal path. The synodal way of “walking together” is one that involves equal opportunities for participation, a genuine regard for the voice of each person, especially those who are marginalized, prayerful spiritual discernment, attentive listening, reflective sharing, openness to diversity, reciprocity, mutual trust, and loving patience.
